The war in Ukraine has affected millions civilians in many ways. Many have fled the country, thousands more died or been injured. Ruslan Mendilo, 73-year-old man from Chernihiv region, suffered severe burns after his house was hit by shelling. He can now afford medical care that can save his life thanks to the cash support provided by Caritas Czech Republic.

Ruins, death, rapes, cruelty, torture, personal losses, constant danger, and fear. Ukrainians have been living in the horrors of the war for 8 months. All these terrible things are not something people can easily deal with. Sometimes it is very hard for them even to find a reason to live. That is why victims of war need professional help to be able to continue their normal life. Caritas Czech Republic provides professional training for psychologists and social workers for the local Caritas Ukraine team.

Lilia Yarova is a widow from Kyiv, Ukraine. She was forced to leave her home and a job in the capital because of the war. Together with her daughter, they found refuge in the Lviv region. Thanks to the financial support from Caritas Czech Republic, Lilia can afford to send her daughter to school.

Ulyana Popova іs a psychologist, who has been working for Caritas Ukraine for more than 4 years. Since the beginning of the war, her work has changed completely. She helps people forced by the war out of their homes to safer parts of Ukraine overcome war horrors and integrate into their new reality. She helps people to learn how to live a normal life in the shadow of the war. Caritas Czech Republic provides psychological training for specialists like Ulyana.
