A shipment of thermal underwear, sheets and linens is on its way towards Ukraine

Yesterday, Archdiocesan Caritas Olomouc sent the next shipment of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Thermal underwear is headed to the needy ones who were affected by armed conflict in the east of the country and the bed sheets and linens are going to the war veterans. They are recovering in a psycho-neurological hospital in Ternopil.

Charity workers from Ukraine arrived in ACHO for inspiration

Improving care for disabled children and young people seeking possibilities for social entrepreneurship or collaborating with Ukrainian charities are the paths that lead to the improvement of the plight in Ukraine. Caritas Olomouc (ACHO) passed on its experience to Ukrainian partners Caritas Kolomiya this week.

Public collection for Ukraine

In June 2015 the Caritas CR discussed with the Association of Private Agriculture CR the possibility of organizing a public collection for Ukraine. In the beginning of July, the collection was publicly announced in the magazine Selská Revue and it was held from 31 August to 25 September 2015. There were nine collection points in nine regions all over the Czech Republic, namely in the regions of Plzen, Litoměřice, Český Krumlov, Prague, Benešov, Žďár nad Sázavou, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Kroměříž a Tábor. The collections were transferred to Ukraine in the course of the first week in November.

“The only thing that survived was the icon,” said to Patrick Nicholson of Caritas Internationalis Valentyna Dzyhim, a 79 years old grandmother who lives in Chermalyk, a village on the frontline of Ukraine’s civil war. In the ruins of her house, she holds the icon, of the Madonna and Child, a family heirloom dating back to the 19th Century. Read more on caritas.org.
