7 biggest achievements of Caritas Czech Republic in 2024

The year 2024 brought many challenges to the world, but it also showed the power of solidarity and commitment to help where it is needed most. We helped civilians affected by the war in Gaza, supported farmers in Zambia battling the effects of climate change and played our part in rebuilding livelihoods in war-torn Ukraine. This is just a fraction of our work. Let's recall the key moments and achievements of Caritas Czech Republic over the past year

3 000 people in the front line Kherson region in Ukraine will be warm this winter thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

It is less than 20 kilometres from the village of Belozerka in the Kherson region to the front line. “Just half an hour ago, a shell hit our village, leaving us once again without light and water," says Inna, a local resident. For Inna and her neighbours, such goods as light and gas have become a luxury, and frosty winters are outside. Massive attacks regularly destroy the infrastructure of frontline communities, and unemployment deprives people of the ability to stock up on fuel for the winter. “We are very grateful that you deliver us firewood even when it's shelling,” Inna says sincerely.

Displaced people in Ukraine will learn new skills and find jobs thanks to our support

Internally displaced people in Ukraine who have lost their homes and usual lifestyle due to the war want to adapt and stand on their own two feet in new places. Unfortunately, not everyone succeeds: someone’s profession is no longer in demand, others have lost their businesses or skills during the war, some face unemployment and do not have the funds to learn a new craft. To help displaced people secure income, Caritas Czech Republic  is launching a new initiative to provide mini-grants for education.

6 ways Caritas Czech Republic supports refugees to become self-sufficient

There are currently more than 122 million displaced people in the world. Whether they have fled abroad or stayed in their countries, they are trying to start again from zero in new places. Refugees, despite many prejudices, do not wait with their hand out for help, but instead want to work, study and stand on their own two feet. But they need support at the beginning to succeed. Caritas Czech Republic is helping them to do just that.

5 ways Caritas Czech Republic protects the environment

At Caritas Czech Republic, we care about our planet. That is why we help protect it in several countries around the world. In Iraq and Zambia, we support farmers in adapting to climate change so that they can continue to grow and harvest successfully. In Moldova and Georgia, we are introducing the benefits of composting, and in Mongolia we are helping to prevent plastic waste from flooding the beautiful countryside. What else does Caritas Czech Republic do to protect the environment?
